THERAPY

Hyperbaric therapy, also known as mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT), is the therapeutic use of oxygen in a pressurized environment at a level greater than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA).

This non-invasive therapy is the most reliable way to increase oxygen levels transported in the blood to all organs of the body.
The typical treatment lasts 60-90 minutes, during which the patient breathes normally in an isolated and dedicated environment.

It has been shown in several clinical studies that mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves the body's innate ability to repair and regenerate itself. It is therefore used as an adjunctive therapy to integrate and enhance the healing process in both chronic and acute conditions.

Hyperbaric treatment is based on the concept of the relationship between gas pressure and absorption in liquids (blood, plasma, and tissues).

By placing a subject in a hyperbaric environment at a pressure of 7 psi, an increase in the partial pressure of oxygen gas is induced, which then leads to more oxygen dissolving into the equivalent amount of plasma. This oxygen saturation in the blood allows a lot of extra oxygen to be transported and diffused into body tissues and internal organs, including the brain.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is designed to increase oxygen delivery to ischemic tissue or diseased tissues that normally respond well to increased oxygen levels. Increasing the volume of dissolved oxygen in blood plasma produces five basic effects:

  1. Reduction in the volume of gas bubbles in the blood
  2. Vasoconstriction, which reduces edema and secondary hypoxia
  3. Restoration of aerobic metabolism in ischemic tissue
  4. Detoxification of poisoned tissues
  5. Improvement of phagocytosis

The use of hyperbaric therapy is recommended for:

  • Rapid recovery post-injury or trauma
  • Pre and Post Medical and Dental Surgery
  • Peak performance and/or faster recovery for athletes
  • Adjuvant in certain chronic and severe conditions (Autism, Lupus, MS, Lyme and more)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Is the hyperbaric chamber safe?

Absolutely yes! The hyperbaric chamber uses compressed and filtered air, conditioned and oxygenated. Even with regular use, there is no risk of oxygen toxicity as we will reach a maximum saturation of 25% which can only be brought to 99% with the use of a personal mask.
Once inside the chamber, you can communicate both visually and verbally with the outside without any difficulty. Most people report a comfortable and very relaxing experience and leave the chamber feeling regenerated.
This therapy is non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical, and has no dangerous side effects.

Can children go in alone?

No! An adult must always accompany a child. It is a great time to be together and dedicate time to adult/child bonding by reading or playing.

How long does a session last?

A session usually lasts from 60 minutes up to 90 minutes.

How often should I schedule my sessions?

A recommendation will be made based on your therapeutic needs and after an initial evaluation of the required goals.

What can I do during my hyperbaric session?

  • Listen to music or watch a movie on your PC or tablet
  • Use your cell phone without limits to call or text
  • Play with portable games or a mini-console
  • Read books or magazines, including on digital readers
  • Sleep with relaxation and/or sensory deprivation tools

What can I expect to happen during my session?

Before it is inflated, the chamber will appear smaller than it is when fully pressurized. Within a minute the chamber will fully inflate, leaving enough space for an adult to sit upright or lie down completely. After the chamber is inflated, it will begin to pressurize. This is when you might feel a slight pressure in your ears. The easiest way to relieve any ear pain is a brief equalization using simply one or more of the following methods:

  • Close your mouth and firmly block your nose with your fingers and thumb. Blow, as if blowing your nose, but always keeping your nose and mouth closed. If done correctly, you will feel air exit through your ears and this should equalize the pressure difference.
  • Or by yawning and opening your mouth as wide as possible, also stretching your tongue: the sinus passages surrounding the ears thus release air, reducing the pressure differential.
  • Sit upright. Turn your head completely to the right, then completely to the left. Repeat the previous steps until your ears are cleared.

If you are the Parent of a small child who has problems with their ears during pressurization, you should massage the area just below the ears right behind the jaw.

Are there any side effects?

No dangerous side effects have been reported with mild hyperbaric therapy. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when preparing for your first session in a chamber:

  • Some people experience mild ear discomfort when trying the chamber, but it is very similar to the sensation experienced during the landing phase of an airplane flight.
  • Some people experience slight fatigue after their first sessions as the body rids itself of toxic elements that have accumulated in the body. This is a safe and necessary effect for the path of physical improvement.

Are there any other tips to improve the chamber experience?

It is always best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing as tight clothing can contribute to the feeling of claustrophobia.

Do not drink large amounts of liquids before entering the chamber.

Do not use perfumes or colognes when you know you have a hyperbaric session.

Are there reasons why a person should not enter the chamber?

There are simple but specific limitations to chamber use. You should never enter if:

  • You are under the influence of alcohol or psychotropic drugs,
  • If you have serious ear canal problems, eardrum issues, or an ear infection
  • If you have flu or cold symptoms
  • If you have used perfume or cologne
